BRIX:
The Brim's Speed Dating Experience
Brix has quickly become one of the most dynamic speed dating experiences in Kansas City. In a world where meeting people face-to-face is increasingly difficult, Brix exists to change that. Online dating can be frustrating—so many profiles to sift through, and let’s be honest, it can sometimes feel downright creepy. Trust is a significant concern when it comes to meeting people online.
Many of us agree: it’s time for a change in how we meet potential partners. At The Brim, we’re here to make that happen. Our rules are simple and designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience:
-
You’ll sit with everyone in the room for at least three minutes during guided rotations.
-
You’ll show respect to each person you meet.
-
Sharing or requesting contact information during the event is strictly prohibited (this helps cut down on any awkward or unwanted advances).
At the end of the event, you’ll fill out a survey indicating your interest in each person. If there’s a mutual match, we’ll share contact information so you can connect.
We’ve seen countless relationships blossom through this experience, and we’re committed to creating a space where meaningful connections can happen.
During the event, drinks will be available for purchase, and we often provide desserts or charcuterie to enhance the atmosphere.

A Special Note From Aaron to Single Men
In today’s online world, meeting women face-to-face has become increasingly challenging. Where do you go to meet women? And where do women go to meet good men?

A friend of mine recently said, “A higher percentage of quiet men are good men compared to the loud ones.” I believe this to be true. The leaders, the “he’s a steal” types, the diamonds in the rough—the treasure hunters patiently waiting for the right moment to begin their adventure. They just need the right opportunity.
Look me in the eyes… This is your opportunity.

Speed Dating FAQ
What can I expect the night to look like?
A typical evening begins with a mingling period, giving participants a chance to relax and socialize. After that, we’ll ask everyone to find their seats for a quick round of announcements. Then, the first rotation begins! Each rotation lasts about 3 minutes, though the time may be slightly shortened for larger groups.

Halfway through the event, we take a break for cake, drink refills, and an opportunity to review your notes. After the break, we continue with the remaining rotations. At the end of the event, there’s another mingling period, during which participants complete their surveys to indicate who they said "YES" to.
How many people typically come?
We guarantee at least 15 participants of the opposite sex at your event, but it’s common to have over 20 participants of each gender. This ensures a lively and engaging evening for everyone. We have taken up to over 30 of each.
I’m struggling with the age ranges. What can you share with me?
Age ranges can be tricky! We aim to create overlapping age ranges for events to ensure there’s a variety of participants. While it’s possible you might talk to someone significantly older or younger than you, many participants find that age matters less once the event is over.

The focus is on participating and engaging with others. Even if someone falls outside your preferred range, you can still enjoy a meaningful interaction. And, of course, you’ll be there for the people who are within your range.
What are the best practices at an event to be successful?
To make the most of your experience, we provide a sheet to help you keep track of your interactions. Each participant has an assigned number. During the rotations, jot down their number, first name, and one key takeaway from your conversation. At the end of the event, you’ll use this information to decide who gets a "YES" or "NO."

Pro tip: Use symbols or shorthand that only you understand to keep your notes private. This way, you can be discreet while staying organized.
Do you ever open up more tickets?
Yes! We frequently assess participation numbers to ensure a balanced and enjoyable event. If the weather is good or we can expand the space, additional tickets may be released. Keep checking back for updates!
How should I approach this if I’m nervous?
Feeling nervous is completely normal—we see it all the time! However, participants who were initially nervous often tell us afterward that they had no regrets. Many describe the event as refreshing and up-lifting.

Take a deep breath, and remember that everyone is there for the same reason: to connect. You’ve already taken a big step by signing up, and we’re here to make the experience as welcoming and enjoyable as possible.
Why is it called Brix?
Brix is a wine term referring to the measurement of the amount of sugar a grape contains. When a winemaker believes it's time to harvest the grapes, they go and test the grapes across the vineyard to see if the sugar levels are high enough for the grapes to be picked and harvested. It's time to check the sugar levels.
